Moomba Waterfest in Melbourne

The Moomba Festival in Melbourne is a tradition in the Australian metropolis and one of the oldest festivals in Australia.

Since 1955, the festival is always celebrated on Labour Day. The Moomba Parade (March 8, 2010) is always in the centre of the events. The parade is a special experience with its cheerful colours and the spectacular performances. The theme of the parade in 2010 is "Moomba is Melbourne and Melbourne is an eventful city". Floats show everything, Melbourne is famous for: the people, the sports, arts, eating and drinking and even the weather.

Germany celebrates Carnival (the so called "Fasching" or "Karneval"). The earthTV cameras show impressions from past years and the current events.

The earthTV camera in Dusseldorf watches a part of the traditional Carnival Monday parade, while the former earthTV camera in Cologne had a perfect view at a lot of Carnival activities. earthTV cameras are located in Engelberg-Titlis and Lech Zurs am Arlberg - they show the Alps in all their glory. On February 14, 2001 China welcomed their New Year. The Chinese New Year is celebrated on a new moon between January 21 and February 21. This is due to the use of a lunar calendar – the months are moon months and the years are sun years.

A new Formula 1 racetrack is being built on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. On November 1, 2009, Formula 1 2009 will climax there when it hosts the final race of the season. The cars will speed along public streets, as they do in the Monaco Grand Prix. The fans will sit as close to the action as possible. The earthTV camera at Yas Marina Circuit shows different stages of the construction work. Various timelapses reveal how the Formula 1 racetrack develops.

On January 26, Australia celebrates Australia Day, their national holiday. The earthTV camera looks back to past national holidays and watches the activities.

"Australia Day", the Australian national holiday on January 26 celebrates the arrival of the first English fleet to arrive in Australia in 1788. The "First Fleet" built up the first English settlement in Australia and called it "Sydney". Today, "Australia Day" is celebrated with parades and fireworks through the country.

"Festival of Freedom": The fall of the Berlin Wall

On November 9th, Berlin celebrated the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall. earthTV shows impressions from the "Festival of Freedom.

After 28 years of existence, the Berlin wall fell in the night of November 9th, 1989. 20 years later, Berlin presented the "Festival of Freedom" in front of Brandenburg Gate. In addition to political appearances and musical acts, art events showed the former course of the Berlin Wall. The British artist and curator Martin Butler is going to recreate the Berlin Wall with the physical presence of people. Thousands of people formed a human chain where the wall once stood.

July 14th - Bastille Day

The French national holiday on July 14th is celebrated with military parades and fireworks.

Juli 14th marks the Fête de la Fédération, the first anniversary of the storming of the Bastille in Paris. The national holiday is celebrated with military parades all over the country – the most famous parade is down Paris’s Champs-Elysées. There are fairs and firework displays all across the country and two of the most spectacular are at the Eiffel Tower and the Fort National in Saint-Malo.

The legendary Oktoberfest, the world's largest fair, takes place in Munich from September 19 to October 20.

earthTV is there to bring you impressions of the event as it unfolds. Oktoberfest is known colloquially as The Wiesn to the people of Munich and the Mayor of the city always splits open the first barrel of beer with the famous words O’Zapft is! to declare the festical open.
