AUSTRALIA DAY

On January 26, Australia celebrates Australia Day, their national holiday. The earthTV camera looks back to past national holidays and watches the activities.

"Australia Day", the Australian national holiday on January 26 celebrates the arrival of the first English fleet to arrive in Australia in 1788. The "First Fleet" built up the first English settlement in Australia and called it "Sydney". Today, "Australia Day" is celebrated with parades and fireworks through the country.

Furthermore, the "Australian of the Day" is honoured on this day.

The earthTV camera in Melbourne shows parts of the "Australia Day People's March" and the fireworks on Federation Square.

In Sydney, it's all about ships: A "Ferrython" takes place, the "Australia Day Tall Ships Race" and the "Best Dressed Vessels Competition". The earthTV camera shows the activities around Sydney harbour.
