Located in the Dolomites, it is a popular winter sport resort and attracts visitors from all over the world for its lively international atmosphere, its fashionable shops, and excellent restaurants. In 1956, Cortina d’Ampezzo was also the host town of the Winter Olympics. Geographical Features:
The spine of Italy is the Apennine Mountain Range, which spreads to either side into rolling hills extending everywhere to the shores of the country. The Po River valley in the northeast in the country's largest lowland. Occasional earthquakes and three active volcanoes, Stromboli in the Aeolian Islands, Vesuvius near Naples and Etna on Sicily, cause havoc from time to time.
