Technology

earthTV’s camera and broadcasting technology is entirely developed by the company’s technology company earthTEC GmbH in Bavaria whilst all the 3D and mobile applications are developed by partner company Stereo 3D Experts in GmbH in Berlin.

More than 100 man-years of R&D and more than 10 million euros have been invested in the proprietary TV platform since earthTV was founded. The proprietary earthTV cameras allow 360 degree pans and 1/1,000 degree positioning precision by a high performance motion control head with a 20x optical zoom. They are fully remote controlled once installed.

In addition to the traditional permanent earthTV cameras a new custom build 15 kilo lightweight camera will bring HD quality pictures and their flexibility will enable broadcasters to capture destinations from a complete camera networks to reflect the best of their country back to their viewers and include special LIVE events to their programs.

Depending on the connectivity requirements of the locations, the cameras can operate up to full HD (1080) LIVE. Also, the cameras are equipped with several remote servicing technologies such as automatic temperature and humidity control dirt/water wiper.

They have an A/C operating temperature at -30 degrees centigrade +60 degrees centigrade and humidity 5-95%. Other features include wiper heavy duty all weather housing and electromagnetic wave sheltering.

All cameras are carefully scouted, positioned and remote controlled with 360 degree pans by earth TV’s experienced team so they can capture the best vistas, human life as it takes place on a day to day basis, and major events and activities that occur within their scope in cities across the world.

In earth TV’s central database, all images from the camera network are enriched with metadata such as location information, weather information, camera parameters and movement data.

The database is linked to earth TV’s 24/7 broadcasting centre (BC), operating for 10 years around the clock with no interruption and with 98,56% dropdown guarantee. Planned and scheduled by the editorial team, the bi-directional BC operates the worldwide remote camera control software, the multiple feed management technology, the Satellite-/AP/FTP transmission systems as well as earth TV’s high performance encoding methods for the best possible LIVE and NEAR LIVE distribution to TV, Online and Mobile.

Different camera location types

earthTV deploys cameras in locations all over the world in all temperatures and all terrains, in the wild, in cities and on the move.

Some of the best examples of 360 degree camera angles in all degrees included the highest earthTV camera situated at 3,200 meters above sea level at Mount Titlis in Engelberg, Switzerland, next to the station of the Rotair cable car. Discover Mount Titlis in Engelberg, Switzerland

With minimum temperatures of around -25 degrees centigrade in winter, the internal heating system of the camera can keep it free of ice.

In contrast, one of the ‘hottest’ earthTV cameras always was the camera in Las Vegas on top of the Treasure Island Hotel, capturing amazing views of the entire Strip including replicas of the Eiffel Tower, Grand Canal of Venice and the illuminated Treasure Island and Bellagio Fountains.

Las Vegas can reach temperatures of +41 degrees centigrade in the summer but the camera can keep cool even up to temperatures of + 60 degrees centigrade. Discover Las Vegas, USA

And then there’s the exotic...one of the earthTV cameras was positioned near the watering hole in South Africa’s Kruger national park . It could take stunning film of wild animals like hippos, elephants and lions in their natural environment.

Because there are no phone lines available, the camera was connected through Ku-Band VSAT services, equipped with Nightvision and full HD and SD night-shot capability. Discover South Africa‘s Kruger national park

And the unusual...another camera was installed on board of the 5-star cruise liner MS-Deutschland on top of the front mast so viewers can follow the journey live and check out its current destinations in the Mediterranean, Asia, South Africa or the Caribbean. Discover the MS-Deutschland

And the most stunning... the camera located on top of the Four Seasons Hotel in Sydney could capture the amazing Sydney Harbour with the Opera House and just opposite the ‘old coat hanger’, Sydney Harbour Bridge, as well as the regular regattas, cruise ships and boat taxis.
