Qatar is an Arab emirate in the Middle East, occupying the small Qatar Peninsula on the northeasterly coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Its sole land border is with Saudi Arabia to the south, with the rest of the territory surrounded by the Persian Gulf.

The capital city of Qatar is Doha. Doha is Qatar’s largest city, with over 80% of the nation’s population residing in Doha or its surrounding suburbs. It is also the economic centre of the country.

The earthTV camera is set up at the “Katara – Valley of Culture” and offers a view over the entrance as well as the Opera House.

Geographic Information

Qatar is separated from the Arabian Peninsula by deserts and salt marshes. Also characteristic for Qatar’s landscape are the hill lands further to the north. The surface of Qatar is mostly determined by boulder and gravel deserts. Only in the outer southeast sand dunes will be found as well. Due to its proximity to the Persian Gulf, the climate is humid, subtropical and warm throughout the year.

Key aspects of tourism:
Qatar is more and more focusing on becoming an attractive holiday destination. In early 2000, the Qatar Tourism Authority was established in order to further develop the tourism industry and to make the emirate more interesting for visitors from all over the world. A sightseeing tour of the capital city of Doha reflects the cultural identity of the country as well as its rapid development.
