Geografische Information:
Austria is a small landlocked country bordered by Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Slovenia; making travel to other European destinations reasonably effortless. The Danube, the second largest river in Europe, runs eastward through Austria. Most of the country is alpine or sub-alpine with heavily wooded mountains and hills. The alpine slopes are home to groundhog, eagle and mountain jackdaw and are covered with alpine flora of various species during summer months. The wooded areas in the southern and central mountains include a small bear population. Grassland dominates the northern rim of the alps and the Pannonian region is characterised by scrub forest, deciduous forest and steppe moores. Salt steppe flora is found east of Lake Neusiedl. The fauna is typical of Central Europe – deer, fox, stag, badger, rabbit, partridge and marten and the birdlife is vast
